How do you know what is your spirit animal? According to ancient belief, you don’t choose your spirit animal, it chooses you!
And it could be any species; mammal, reptile, bird, or insect – anything is possible. Your spirit animal might be a dog, owl, elephant, crow, giraffe, lizard or even a snake. So, what function do spirit animals serve? According to tradition, spirit animals help us feel more in tune with the earth and guide us to make the right decisions in life.
In order to set your mind and spirit to be receptive to the idea of a spirit animal specifically for you requires a certain amount of effort on your part.
These are a few simple steps you should take:
1. Spend some time in nature.
Making the natural world a part of your life gives you to the possibility of connecting with a spirit animal. Don’t go out searching for a spirit animal; If you don’t live in the countryside, go to a national or city park. Cut out all distractions; close you phone, switch off your iPod, and become aware of your surroundings. When at home, turn off the air conditioner, open the blinds and the windows and just listen to the wind and the crickets instead of playing music.
2. Recognize the wisdom and intelligence of animals.
Spending more time in nature helps to think of them in a different way. Check out their habits and how they communicate with one another; look for other aspects of their behavior which will surprise you. Animals have an intelligence all their own, so It’s important to respect animals for who they are.
3. Meditate and pray.
You will need to meditate or pray to be open to receive some form of communications from your spirit animal. But don’t look for a quick fix. Only look for your spirit animal if you’re ready to connect more deeply with the natural world.
4. Recognizing Your Animal.
Be aware of recurrent appearances of a particular animal in your life. The recurrence of animal symbols can mean your spirit animal is trying to get in touch. Which animals do you dream about?. Spirit animals often appear to people at night in their dreams, when the mind is at rest and the subconscious is at work. Write down your animal dreams and look for patterns over time. What messages are the animals sending? Try to interpret them. Keep a record of your meditations, and how you interact with animals that come into your life
5. Consult a shaman.
Finding one of these spiritual mediums isn’t easy. But, if you do succeed, they have ways of finding your spirit animal that are not available to you.
6. Learn about your animal.
Once you’ve identified your animal, learn everything there is to know about it. For example, what does it eat, and where does it live? What does this animal represent? If possible, spend time near your animal’s habitat. Try to learn as much as you an about how the animal exists in the wild.
7. Apply your animal’s wisdom to your own life.
Use what you have learned to help you with making big decisions, facing up to difficult situations, and achieving your goals. Draw on your animal’s wisdom in everyday life to help in your treatment of others.
8. Be open to messages.
Whenever your animal appears to you in any form, pay close attention. Try to interpret the messages the animal is sending. They won’t be straightforward, so you’ll have to do some deep thinking to try to understand. These are some questions to ask yourself:
- What emotions do you feel when the animal comes?
- Does the animal seem to be a sign of foreboding or comfort?
- Does the animal seem to be leading you in a certain direction?
9. Honor your animal.
Shamans say that you gain a deeper connection with your spiritual animal by honoring it.You can do this, for example, by standing up for the environment and animal rights, and in particular the well being of your spirit animal.
Fill your home with objects related to your animal. Let the animal know that it is welcome in your space.
Remember, spiritual animals pick you. so you just may find that your spiritual animal is not the animal that you originally expected.
