‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ has some really touching and meaningful quotes in it, but did you know the movie was adapted from a book?
Movies which are adaptations of books or original storylines are always great, especially if you’ve read the the book before you see the movie.
Even though watching a movie is way easier and, most people would say, more relaxing than reading a book, it doesn’t allow you to paint the story in your mind’s eye.
The book has been translated and published in 31 different languages, and the movie version won the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature
The plot centers around Charlie, played by Logan Lerman, who is a slightly nervous freshman at high school. A little withdrawn and unsociable, he eventually makes a connection with his English teacher Mr. Anderson, played by Paul Rudd.
As well as Mr. Anderson, Charlie also makes good friends with two seniors, Sam and his step brother in the film, Patrick.
The movie takes some interesting twists and turns and Charlie ends up at the guys’ house after a high school dance and, unknowingly, eats a cannabis brownie.
Like the book, the film is both humorous and touching and offers a unique insight into the life of a shy freshman at high school.
