In a world where the bound is our imagination, anything can happen, no matter how far fetched it may seem.
A seemingly regular college student has shown the world that surprises can take on an entirely different meaning when she finds out about a milestone when it was almost too late…
The Wonderful State Of Ohio
Ohio’s weather is ideal, staying steadily in the fairly warm temperature with low humidity, and a slight breeze that is barely noticable. It provides a great environment for residents and college students, including those who went to Kent State University. However, one of the students who attend KSU was in for the biggest surprise of her life…
A Diligent Student
KSU is a massive campus, with a diverse student body and laid back atmosphere. Allyson, a bright eyed KSU student found that she started getting stomach pain while walking through the campus. As a dedicated student, she couldn’t risk skipping out on one of her lectures to treat the pain. So, she just decided to endure it and hope it would get better.
An Aching Lecture
In the middle of the lecture, Allyson completely regretted her decision. The stomach pains didn’t lighten at all; in fact, it kept growing in force. She tried to ignore the pains and listen to the lecture to stay ahead of her work, but it became too much for her to handle…
Too Much Pressure
One of the classmates nearby asked her if she was alright. Hoping not to draw any attention or distract anybody, Allyson said she was fine. But she knew she was far from fine. After a few more grueling minutes of enduring the convulsions in her stomach, she knew she had to leave immediately.
Getting Home
Even when driving on her way home, her stomach wasn’t holding back. Desperate to get there as soon as possible, Allyson ignored her pain and kept her eyes on the road, following the driving safety rules she learned as a teenager. She did this, because she knew it would be a disaster if she crashed in her current condition.
Arrival
After what felt like hours, she finally pulled up on her driveway. She didn’t care if she parked the car crooked or went a little close to the wall, because she was only concerned with one goal: get to mom. She hastily grabbed her keys and unlocked the door…
Worried Mother
As soon as Allyson opened the front door and saw her mother, her stomach calmed down just a little bit. Her mother immediately got up and asked what was wrong, noticing how pale Allyson’s face was. She hoped her daughter didn’t have a stomach virus, or worse…
Rest
Her mother offered to take her to the doctor, but Allyson didn’t want to make it a big deal, claiming it was just a really upset stomach that needed medicine. While her mother was hesitant about this, she decided to give her the medicine, and let her daughter sleep it off…
Wake To No Difference
When Allyson woke up in the morning, she didn’t feel much better. While it did calm down a little bit, it was still very bothersome for her, as it irritated her all morning. She believed they were normal menstrual cramps that everybody dealt with, but she would quickly be proven wrong…
Growing Pain
The pains were slowly crawling back throughout the day, attacking her with waves of torment. She noticed that something else grew along with the pains: fear. She was afraid that the root of these cramps was more serious than she first expected. Those suspicions would be proven correct, but nowhere near the way she envisioned…
Peaked Agony
In the evening, the stomach pains have reached their prime. They would convulse, then calm down, then return with a menacing vengeance. These would elicit screams from Allyson, and escalate to the point where her mother had to take her to the emergency room…
Arrival To The ER
It felt like an eternity passed before doctors took the extremely ill college student into the room, and started asking her questions. Immediately after, they tested her blood for any signs. There was a high white blood cell count, which told the doctors she had a kidney infection.
Double Checking
This surprised Allyson, as she couldn’t remember doing anything that would lead to this. Her mother wasn’t any different, so they both asked if she could use an ultrasound to see if any of her tissues were injured. The doctors complied, and were completely shocked by the result…
Urgent Questions
Allyson stated, “Ten other people came rushing in my room and asked ‘have you ever been pregnant before?’ I said, ‘no.’ My tests were negative. I don’t look pregnant. I don’t feel pregnant. That’s when they told me.”
Pregnant?!
Allyson was completely speechless when the doctors told her that she was 42 weeks pregnant, and was in labor. As if that wasn’t enough, they also told her that she was about to give birth to the baby…
Completely Overwhelmed
As anybody else would in react in this situation, Allyson completely freaked out. While she was in a relationship nine months prior, she didn’t think she would be pregnant since her periods were irregular. And here she sat, about to give birth right after she found out the shocking news…
Supportive Mother
“My mom said my face just went white. I started panicking. My mom was so supportive. She told me we could do it and we’ll make it work. After they reminded me I needed to calm down, because of the baby. I was happier and excited. I love babies. I’ve always loved kids.”
The Less Conventional Way Of Giving Birth
Allyson was found to be suffering from pre-eclampsia, a condition that threatens both the mother and the child. This meant that the only option they had was to deliver the baby through C section. In other words, surgeons needed to cut her abdomen open…
Newborn
Although she was excited to have her own child, she was equally nervous to begin the procedure. Allyson’s mother held her hand the entire time, telling her everything would be okay. Just as quickly as it started, Allyson Opfer has finished giving birth to her son, named Olivier David.
A Wonderful Relationship
Now 14 months old, Olivier smiles constantly, thanks to the motherly love and care from Allyson. Luckily for her, Olivier is much more well behaved and easy to take care of than most babies. Two weeks after giving birth to her son, Allyson resumed her studies at KSU, and shared the wonderful news with her family and friends.
