Watching a wild police chase on TV is a bit of a guilty pleasure we all can enjoy. However, every time the police get into their cruisers to take down some menace trying to raise hell on the evening news, the driver’s actions put many innocent lives at risk, including those brave officers themselves.
As dangerous as high-speed chases can be, it’s still difficult not to enjoy watching one unfold on TV. The following story shows just why, with a twist at the end not even the police could predict…

911 Call
It was an ordinary day on the job for Oklahoma City police officers on the morning of November 13, 2017. They had a slew of the usual phone calls and reports but there was nothing at all indicating the trouble that would soon follow. Then a call came in about a stolen truck.
On Alert
Earlier that month, on November 3, a 2006 Ford F-250 had been taken from a home in nearby Bridge Creek. Shortly after, Oklahoma City police were notified so officers could keep their eyes open for a truck that met the description. Ten days later, a lead finally came in and officers believed they spotted the truck…
Suspect Spotted
Oklahoma City police officers believed they had spotted a young man cruising in the same white truck that had been reported as stolen. At the time, the cops had no idea who was driving or what their reasoning was for stealing the pick-up. If it was even the same care at all…
Brenton Hager
What they didn’t know was that behind the wheel was 25-year-old Brenton Hager, a local man who was no stranger to causing some trouble. Hager described himself on an online modeling profile as 6 foot 4 inches tall, 180 pounds, with a 32-inch waist, tanned skin, blue eyes, and brown hair. The profile revealed that he is “interested in acting, fit modeling, fitness, lifestyle, promotional modeling, and working as a spokesperson/host.” He even mentioned previously doing “stunt work.”
Selfie King
From his Facebook page, it’s also clear that Hager loved to take selfies and share them with all his friends. However, it’s not as clear if he’s ever actually done any real modeling work. Instead, he wrote that he was a “Journeyman at Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services,” after graduating nearby Monmouth-Roseville High School.
Facebook Live
It’s not clear how long the pursuit was happening before Hager started broadcasting on Facebook Live. At some point after he realized the cops were on to him when he grabbed his phone and opened up the app. Strangely enough, Hager is the second suspect to live-stream their own police chase in 2017. It’s just another growing trend on Facebook that worries police…
15 Minutes Of Fame
The 15-minute video posted to Facebook shows Hager alternatively staring at the road, taking drags on his cigarette, and making comments about the wild chase behind him. All the while sirens wail and police cars are visible in the background…
Colorful Commentary
He continued, talking about his family, how he didn’t want to pull over because the police would “beat his a**,” how much gas he had left, and how slow other people were driving…
Comic Relief
At one point, he mocked officers, saying “Didn’t get your spike strips out fast enough, homie.” In one hilarious bit, he came to a dead end and debated ramming a barbed wire fence to get into another field. Apparently, he thought nothing could stop him, so he decided to do it and punched the gas…
Different Guy
It wasn’t the first time that Hager had run afoul of the police, according to mugshot databases.Hager was previously accused of crimes including the felony of writing a bogus check, according to Oklahoma records. He was also accused of bail jumping and cocaine possession in the past.
Crazy Day
Then you can hear his phone’s GPS say “Please drive to the highlighted route” just a split second before he crashes through the wire. A few moments later, it tells him to make a U-turn. He eventually got out to check whether the barbed wire popped any of his tires, and that’s where the live stream finally ended. However, the whole chase was simultaneously being broadcast live on local news, and it’s the aerial coverage that captured the true insanity that followed…
Turn Around
After driving through several fields, Hager made his way back onto the suburban streets of Moore. Then, he stopped at a random dead end to ditch a heavy toolbox in the bed. Surprisingly, that’s when things really started to take a turn for the worse…
Wild Chase
In total, the chase lasted for about three hours, and it ended in a field, but the drama continued for some time as Hager allegedly wouldn’t surrender. At one point, a KOCO News reporter wrote on Twitter, “He’s got a flat tire, he appears to be on the phone, he’s surrounded, police have stop sticks out, he’s moving again.” Police said Hager stopped multiple times and threw items out of the vehicle…
Pastor Wright
It was during one of those stops that he was surprised by a man named Craig Wright. A local pastor, Wright came flying out of nowhere in his old station wagon to box in Hager’s truck. The vigilante pastor had a concealed carry license and decided he should try to stop the chase by shooting out the truck’s tires…
Local Vigilante
Hager then appeared to confront him, then changed his mind as the pastor stepped out, pulled out a gun, and shot the pickup’s left rear tire before Hager managed to flee through yet another field. That was the beginning of the end and the rest of the helicopter footage that was captured just shows Hager cutting through open fields and wildlands, gradually losing control as the back tire basically spins off the rim.
Pants Down
Officers attempted to stop him several times, at one point nearly ramming him into a news van, but he’s able to get away – that is, until he started backing up wildly to escape an officer with a shotgun and reverses straight into a nearby pond. After a short foot pursuit in which his pants fell down, officers subdued him with a stun gun and took him away…
Bad News
Memes popped up on social media and on Hager’s own Facebook page after the police pursuit. His alleged catchphrase, “I’m in a high speed chase, bro,” sparked immediate humor fodder. However, ABC 10 News reported another detail that underscored the serious nature of the incident: “At one point, another vehicle pulled alongside the truck and a man raised a gun toward the truck.”
Karmic Justice
Throughout the hot pursuit, Hager crashed into at least three cars, even hitting a News 9 vehicle. Eventually, he jumped the road and ended up in a nearby pond. “He was having fun,” county sheriff Todd Gibson said, “and he knew he was caught when he was in the middle of the field and he didn’t want to go to jail. That’s not a decision that the sheriff’s department is going to allow him to dictate.”
Zero Fun
However, in the video, Hager got out of video and said he hasn’t “had no fun. I haven’t gone out one time. I just wanted to get some assets. I’m tired of restarting.” He shouted out at one friend, saying, “are you still mad at me, homie?” Clearly, he had no idea of the amount of trouble he just got himself into.
Drug Addict
All in all, the two-and-a-half-hour pursuit crossed several jurisdictions as it wound from the highways of southern Oklahoma City to the open fields of the city limits. Soon after, Hager was charged with eight counts, including felony assault on a police officer with a dangerous weapon, according to News9.com.
